A few weeks ago, my lawn went from a beautiful green landscape to a forest of brown dead trees. They were huge and growing out of control. I was having a difficult time keeping them from growing too fast and getting in the way of my mowing and weeding. There were three trees growing so they were growing in my driveway and blocking my view. So, I started to thin them out.
It is a very frustrating thing to have a fallen tree right next to your house. Not only does it cause an obstruction in your view, but you don’t have any place to put the fallen tree aside until you get it out of the way. If it gets to the point where you can’t move it because of all the leaves, then you’re in trouble. Plus, it will be hard to carry it away to the trash can or tree stumps, leaving you with a very dead tree and a big mess to clean up.
First, I went down to the local library and got a book on how to deal with trees. I learned that there are a lot of different kinds of tree pruning methods, including thinning and removal of some of the thick, extra branches. I also learned a little bit about branch pruning. That seemed to help, as they weren’t too thick that they were going to completely block the walkways and get in the way of mowing. However, I still had a few large branches that were still too thick for my liking.
There are two ways to deal with a fallen tree. The first is to use heavy equipment to remove it entirely. This can be expensive, so if you have the money, you might want to attempt this method. However, there are also people who like to see a tree planted in their yard to grow back. If you do want a tree planted in your yard in order to grow back, then you’ll need to do some work to take out the dead branches and keep the new ones coming.
A less expensive way is to hire a tree service to come in and cut it all for you. This works better for smaller fell trees that you might not be able to otherwise cut yourself. A tree service will have a number of tools to make this process go smoothly. They’ll generally have an saw, a secateurs, and an angle grinder. You’ll probably want to use secateurs, as they’re smaller and you won’t damage as much of the tree.
The downfall of hiring a tree service is the cost. While you might find a few fairly cheap services, if you choose an extremely popular tree service, you could end up paying more than you would have if you had done it yourself. Additionally, these types of services aren’t usually covered by insurance, so you could end up having to pay for the costs out of pocket. This is why it’s best to do some research before you choose a tree service to be sure they’re reputable.
If you want to be really handy with your saw, you can try doing the cutting yourself. It’s hard to know exactly how much work goes into felling a tree without actually doing it, but there are plenty of books and videos out there that can give you a general idea. As long as you have some training equipment, this should be something that you can handle with ease. Just remember that you’ll need some basic carpentry skills as well. Even if you think you can cut a tree with a saw, you should really invest in some good tree cutting training before you attempt to complete a tree in your home.
Once you’ve taken care of the felled tree, take some time to clean up the area. This will prevent the area from attracting unwanted insects. If you do find a nest of insects in the area, it’s also a good idea to get rid of them before they can start breeding. Remember, prevention is always better than a cure, so if you’ve caught the tree in the first place, you won’t have to worry about removing it again for years to come. When fall comes, you’ll be glad you took the precautions when it came to removing a tree that became a nuisance.
